14.04.13 : A sunny day in Zurich and three points in the bag

Sunday morning, a long, but good travel. It was the first time for us (Allen and Laxman) in Zurich. It was warm and it was the first time that we entered the ground without wearing a jacket after coming to Switzerland. The opening minutes of the match were intense, and it took some time for Servette to make a well-organised attacking move. The Zurich team also made few good moves in the beginning and it took a good playing movement from the centre for a fine pass to Stewart, who won the first penalty corner for the team.
The penalty corner resulted in a good pass from Jordan to Gareth who was in a fine position to give Servette its first goal of the match. The teams went into the half time with slender goal lead to Servette.
The Servettians started the second half well, applying good pressure to the opponents, which resulted in earning a penalty corner. Wanja stepped up to the penalty with a good slip to give Servette its much needed second goal. By this time the heat had already taken its toll on the Grasshopper players and constant pressure from Servette lead to several attacks, which resulted in all the 11 opponent players in their own half for a good period of 10 minutes. But the goals were still hard to come. A good hit by Patrick towards Jordan in the circle was deflected by a Zurich defender, who did the work himself as the ball ended in his side’s net. The Grasshopper players found it hard to attack through the good structure of Servette, which evented in a lot of counter attacks and in one such attack Loïc made a fine run and made an attempt to the goal. The ball deflected off the goalkeeper and Laxman was in position to make it 4-0 for Servette.
A nice trip to Zurich, a sunny day and three points in the bag, good weekend, go go Servette!!
