Tough day at home for Servette HC in derby match against Black Boys

Geneva, Sunday 1st of June – Under the hot sun and in front of a supportive home crowd, Servette HC faced off against local rivals Black Boys in a challenging derby match.

Despite a challenging training week and limited time practicing as a full squad, the team entered the match with strong intentions and determination to win. Servette started the match with energy. However, early on, it became clear that the team struggled to find its rhythm. The team had a hard time finding control during the match, with too many turnovers and trouble keeping possession. We were able to attack Black Boys’ circle a couple times, but couldn’t turn them into goals. Black Boys took advantage and scored the first goal with a long shot and tip-in during the first half.

At halftime, the team took a moment to regroup and refocus. The first half hadn’t gone our way, but there was still plenty of belief in the room. Bas stepped up with a focused and motivating pep talk, telling the team what needed to change. He introduced a few key tactical adjustments that gave us a new sense of direction. We came out for the second half with a clear plan and the determination to take back control of the game.

We started the second half with high energy and created some good chances, but unfortunately, we couldn’t find the back of the net. It was hard to stay consistent. As the second half went on, we kept losing possession and couldn’t settle into our usual rhythm. Although we earned a penalty corner, we didn’t manage to score from it. The same happened on the other side, Black earned a penalty corner, but fortunately, we cleared the ball just off the goal line. The match stayed tense, with both teams pushing hard, but something was missing on our side, we lacked the fighting mentality needed to turn things around. Unfortunately, Black Boys took advantage, breaking through our defence and scoring a second goal.

Though the result wasn’t what we hoped for, the match served as a valuable learning experience. With the Final Four just three weeks away, the team is fully aware of the work that lies ahead. We know we need to push ourselves harder in the coming weeks.

We truly appreciate all the fans who showed up today. Thank you!
